Prominent Islamic Scholar Muyideen Bello is dead 

The Muslim community has been thrown into mourning following the death of esteemed Islamic scholar and preacher, Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello, who passed away at the age of 84.

His demise was announced on Friday morning by prominent Islamic scholar Alfa Aribidesi of At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah.

Born in 1940 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Bello was celebrated for his profound knowledge and impactful Islamic teachings.

Among the tributes was an emotional post by renowned Islamic singer Alhaji Basit Olarenwaju, popularly known as Aponle Anabi, who shared his grief on his official Facebook page.

Bello’s journey as a public speaker began remarkably early, at the age of 10. Growing up in a devout Islamic family, he was immersed in Quranic teachings from a young age, guided by his parents.

His thirst for knowledge led him to live with his uncle at nine years old, where he attended both regular school and an Islamic school in Ibadan.

His dedication and intellect soon earned him admiration, with teachers and fellow pupils viewing him as a prodigy in Islamic scholarship.

Reflecting on the importance of education for Muslims, Bello once addressed concerns about the reluctance of some clerics towards formal education.

He explained: “In those days, our fathers feared that the lifestyle of educated people was not in consonance with what our religion requires. They feared it would damage the teachings of Islam. But we have realised that it is very important for our children and clerics to be educated and informed about their surroundings, so they can engage meaningfully in discussions on various matters.”

Bello’s life and teachings left an indelible mark on the Muslim community, inspiring countless followers. His legacy will continue to guide many in their faith and pursuit of knowledge.
