Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has openly criticized producers who demand that actors deliver one million views on YouTube on the first day of a movie’s release.
Known as the “Queen of YouTube Nollywood” for her dominance on the platform, Kadiri urged her colleagues not to succumb to undue pressure to achieve high view counts, stressing that such expectations do not define a movie’s success.
Taking to her Instagram page, she wrote, “Dear Nollywood actors, take the pressure off your shoulders! Any producer who requires one million views from you in one day has failed. A good production requires more than your face.”
She further clarified that the obsession with immediate high viewership on YouTube reflects a lack of understanding of how the platform works, cautioning her peers not to let such demands dampen their spirits.
“One million views is not a standard of success. So much y’all don’t know about YouTube. Don’t let their ignorance rob you of your joy,” Kadiri added.
