Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat at the Huawei Cloud Summit Nigeria 2024, themed “Leap Now with Cloud,” held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the collaborative power of technology in building a prosperous and inclusive future for Nigerians.
“Let me reaffirm the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that drive digital transformation and create opportunities for our people. Together, we can harness the power of technology to build a more inclusive and prosperous future for all Nigerians,” the Governor stated.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the transformative impact of technology on Lagos State, noting its role in accelerating economic growth, creating jobs, and reshaping work and connectivity through innovative digital solutions across industries.
“Achieving the promise of a digital future requires deliberate investments in robust infrastructure, the cultivation of digital talent, and active collaborations between the public and private sectors,” he said.
Addressing the theme of the summit, the Governor described cloud technology as a critical tool for innovation, efficiency, and growth. He noted that adopting cloud solutions reduces IT infrastructure costs and provides businesses with a competitive edge in an increasingly digital world.
“We are at a pivotal moment in history where digital transformation is no longer optional but essential for sustainable development. Technologies like cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and big data hold the key to unlocking opportunities in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and commerce,” Sanwo-Olu remarked.
The Governor called on participants to embrace bold ideas, share innovative solutions, and form partnerships that would shape the future of technology in Africa. He commended Huawei for its commitment to technological advancement and empowering businesses, which aligns with Nigeria’s vision for a thriving digital economy.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Nigeria, Chris Lu, expressed the company’s dedication to accelerating Nigeria’s digital economy, particularly in Lagos.
He highlighted Huawei’s investment in building a local cloud infrastructure to ensure data security and support the country’s growth.
“Together, we are all contributing positively to the development and greatness of Nigeria and Lagos. Huawei is very committed to accelerating the prosperity of Nigerians’ digital economy,” Lu said.
In a goodwill message, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, underscored Nigeria’s potential in cloud computing.
He described cloud technology as a transformative force that can empower businesses, improve government services, and enhance Nigerians’ quality of life.
“Nigeria has a huge potential for cloud infrastructures with a large local market of young innovators,” Abdullahi noted, adding that aligning digital strategies with local interests and aspirations is essential for success.
The summit, a convergence of industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders, served as a platform to drive conversations on leveraging technology for national development.
