Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, sustained an injury during a congressional delegation trip to Luxembourg, her office announced on Friday.
The New York Post reports that Pelosi was part of a bipartisan group visiting the World War II battlefield to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
During the trip, she was injured and subsequently hospitalised for evaluation, according to her spokesman, Ian Krager.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is receiving excellent care from doctors and medical staff,” Krager shared in a statement.
“She remains engaged in her work but deeply regrets missing the remaining engagements of the delegation, which were meant to honour the extraordinary bravery of American service members during one of our nation’s most heroic moments,” Krager added.
Pelosi also extended her gratitude through her spokesperson, recognising the contributions of veterans and expressing appreciation for the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their role in supporting peace in Europe during and after the war.
