Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in the sum of ₦500 million.
The presiding judge ordered that Bello must produce two sureties in like sum. According to him the sureties must show evidence that they own properties in Abuja.
He said that that their title documents must be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.
The judge also ordered that Bello must surrender his Nigerian passport with the court. He alongside his sureties must also submit two recent passport photographs to the court.
Justice Nwite ordered that Bello be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
The embattled ex-governor had earlier in the day pleaded not guilty to the alleged 19-count ₦80 billion fraud charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
