Herders in Ogun State have been called upon to collaborate with veterinary officials to ensure the success of the ongoing herders’ enumeration and anthrax vaccination exercise across the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye, made this appeal during an interview at her office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
She explained that the initiative is part of a comprehensive statewide campaign targeting migratory herders to safeguard against transboundary animal diseases and prevent outbreaks that could threaten livestock, herders, and public health.
“Ogun State is taking this proactive step to protect the wellbeing of both animals and humans,” Jokotoye stated.
In response, the Secretary of Miyetti Allah in Ogun State, Alhaji Usman Bello, expressed appreciation to the state and federal governments for the vaccination programme.
He assured that herders would cooperate fully with veterinary officials, recognising the positive impact the exercise would have on their livestock and livelihoods.
