A real estate magnate, Ambassador Babatunde Adeyemo has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the increasing cases of excessive use of force by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) operatives.

Adeyemo, who narrowly escaped being shot by Customs officers on December 8th while returning from a community event, made this appeal during the first anniversary celebration of his Oko Opo Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering widows, orphans, and the less privileged.

The event, which saw 150 widows receive medical attention, food, and cash palliatives, took a somber turn as Adeyemo recounted his harrowing experience.

He emphasized the need for accountability and reform within the customs to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

Adeyemo also urged the National Assembly and other relevant authorities to investigate the numerous allegations of abuse of power by Customs officials.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that law enforcement agencies operate within the bounds of the law and respect the rights of citizens.

According to him, his encounter with Customs operatives was a stark reminder of the urgent need for reforms within the Nigerian law enforcement system to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
