Taiwo Awoniyi made a sensational return to form, netting his first goal of the Premier League season in dramatic fashion as Nottingham Forest steamrolled Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0.

The result cements Forest’s position in third place, with their eyes firmly set on challenging the league’s elite.

Awoniyi, who was introduced late in the second half, capped off a blistering counter-attack in stoppage time.

Latching onto a pinpoint pass from James Ward-Prowse, the Nigerian striker rifled a first-time effort into the net, leaving Wolves’ defence in tatters and fans in awe.

It was a moment of brilliance that not only sealed the victory but underlined the visitors’ clinical display.

The match began with Forest asserting themselves early. In the 7th minute, Morgan Gibbs-White capitalised on a brilliant cut-back from Anthony Elanga to fire the ball into the bottom corner, giving Forest an early lead.

Wolves struggled to respond, with their forwards frustrated by Forest’s rock-solid defence, marshalled expertly by goalkeeper Matz Sels, who pulled off several stunning saves to deny the hosts.

As the first half drew to a close, Chris Wood doubled Forest’s advantage in the 44th minute. Callum Hudson-Odoi selflessly set him up with a clever pass, and Wood made no mistake, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner. The goal silenced the home crowd and left Wolves chasing shadows.

The second half saw Wolves fight to claw their way back, with Jorgen Strand Larsen coming closest with a powerful header that was miraculously saved by Sels.

However, their efforts were in vain as Forest’s substitutions added fresh energy and precision.

Ward-Prowse and Awoniyi combined to devastating effect in the dying moments to deliver the final blow.

Wolves, now languishing in the bottom half of the table, were left ruing missed opportunities and defensive lapses, while Nottingham Forest’s travelling fans celebrated a performance brimming with confidence and composure.
