Bomb blast rocks Islamiyya School in Abuja, two dead in tragic explosion

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a suspected bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council.

The tragic bomb blast incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM on January 6, 2025.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, a distress call was received from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, prompting swift deployment of police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa.

The area of the bomb blast was cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate investigations.

According to Adeh, the bomb blast reportedly occurred on the school veranda, killing two men who were allegedly tampering with an improvised explosive device (IED).

She said a third individual and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently hospitalised under police guard.

Adeh explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the three men, identified as visitors from Katsina, had come to meet the school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, saying that the Police suspected they brought the explosive device with them.

She explained that the FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the incident as an IED explosion, with remnants of the device recovered from the scene, adding that Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or items to the authorities using the following emergency numbers: 0806 158 1938, 0803 200 3913, 0802 894 0883, 0705 733 7653, CRU: 0810 731 4192 and PCB: 0902 222 2352.

The police assured the public of their commitment to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the explosion and maintaining peace in the area. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
