Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has fiercely defended her cousin-in-law, May Edochie, following online criticism regarding her decision not to mourn her late son, Kambilichukwu Edochie, on social media.
Taking to Instagram, Rita Edochie expressed outrage at the perceived double standards of netizens.
She noted how Yul Edochie, May’s husband, was previously trolled for his approach to mourning Kambili after his tragic death two years ago. Now, May faces backlash for choosing a private path to grieve.
Rita noted that May stayed off social media on Kambili’s posthumous birthday. The grieving mother refrained from posting online or celebrating the birthday of her close friend, actress Anita Joseph, which fell on the same day. Despite this, May marked Anita’s birthday the following day—a gesture that Rita says was overlooked by critics due to hate and bias.
In her Instagram post, Rita slammed the trolls, stating:
“Last week was Kambili’s two years of earthly departure, and you messed-up netizens are now trying to lecture Queen May on how to mourn her flesh and blood. Do you tell a woman as virtuous as Queen May what to do and what not to do on the remembrance day of her son?”
Rita called out content creators fueling the criticism, warning that accountability would soon be enforced. She encouraged May to rise above the negativity, hailing her achievements and virtues.
“Keep reigning, my great darling daughter Queen May Yul Edochie. You’re blessed beyond limits. No naysayer or propaganda can dent your person,” Rita declared.
