Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has extended his sympathies to the Chadian President, Gen. Mahamat Déby, over attack on Presidential Palace in N’Djamena on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

This was contained in a statement signed by Prof. Usman Tar, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, on Thursday in Maiduguri.

Zulum expressed happiness that the Chadian leader was unharmed during the violent attempt, and praised the swift response of the presidential guards.

“It gladdens my heart to note that President Déby was unharmed, and the attack on the Presidential Palace was foiled with remarkable speed.

“The peace and security of Chad are crucial for the fragile stability we are building in Borno, given our shared border,” Zulum said.

Zulum also acknowledged Chad’s ongoing support for Nigerian refugees, displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency since 2014, saying thousands of Borno indigenes have been staying in Bagasola, Chad.

“We are indebted to President Déby and his government for providing a safe haven for our people with dignity and honour.

“The people of Borno will continue to pray for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the Republic of Chad under his leadership,” he added.

Zulum reaffirmed Borno’s commitment to fostering strong ties with the Republic of Chad and pledged continued prayers for the country’s political stability and development.
