Tinubu hails Okonjo-Iweala, Adeola, Adesina on honorary doctorates

President Bola Tinubu has extended congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Mr. Fola Adeola, and Mr. Kola Adesina following their conferment of honourary doctorate degrees by the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The trio received the recognition during the university’s 55th convocation ceremony held on January 16, 2025.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), was lauded for her pioneering leadership as the first African woman to head the organization and her role in implementing significant financial reforms in Nigeria. Mr. Adeola, co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank and founder of the FATE Foundation, was honoured for his outstanding contributions to the Nigerian banking sector and his mentorship of young entrepreneurs. Mr. Adesina, an alumnus of UNILAG and the Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, was recognized for his innovative work in the energy sector, with his company operating in 42 countries.

In his congratulatory message, President Tinubu praised the trio for their exemplary leadership, hard work, and contributions to Nigeria’s development.

He highlighted Mr. Adesina’s transformative leadership in the energy sector, noting that his efforts have ensured sustainable power solutions for the country.

“Your visionary leadership at Sahara Power Group has been transformative, ensuring sustainable power solutions and inspiring professionals across the energy sector to pursue excellence,” President Tinubu said in his letter to Mr. Adesina.

The President encouraged the honorees to continue serving as role models for Nigeria’s youth, emphasizing that their contributions are highly valued by the government and the people of Nigeria. He wished them continued success in their future endeavours.
