The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 21 September 2024 Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, on Friday presented 1,004 documents to support his petition challenging the declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election winner.

At the resumed hearing of the petition, Ighodalo’s counsel, Ken Mozia (SAN), submitted the documents, which were admitted as exhibits by the Justice Wilfred Kpochi-led tribunal.

The documents include Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of results forms EC8A-E and Local Government Area summaries used in the election.

Additionally, the CTCs of Form EC8Cs for the 18 Local Government Areas and CTCs of Form EC8Bs (Ward Result Sheets) covering the 192 Wards were tendered.

Other submissions included 320 CTCs of Form EC8A (polling unit results), 318 CTCs of INEC Polling Unit Booklets containing Form EC25D, and 58 CTCs of Form EC8A (IREV).

Mozia noted that the verification of the documents was conducted in the presence of lawyers for all parties and the Tribunal Registrar.

Despite objections from respondents’ counsel, including Kanu Agabi (SAN), Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), and V.C. Dewigwe, the tribunal provisionally admitted all the documents as exhibits.

Justice Kpochi stated that the respondents’ counsel would provide their reasons for objection at the address stage.

The tribunal adjourned proceedings to Saturday, 18 January 2025, when the petitioners are expected to present additional documents in support of their case.
