The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to eliminating malaria, recognizing the disease as a major public health challenge.
Dr. Iziaq Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, emphasized this goal in Abuja on Sunday, during a meeting with a delegation from the Malaria Consortium.
Salako highlighted malaria’s socio-economic impact and confirmed that eliminating the disease remains a priority under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He outlined ongoing initiatives, such as the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) strategy, which fosters collaboration between the Federal Government and states to enhance malaria management.
The Minister also underscored the critical role of digital health initiatives in improving malaria interventions and creating centralized health data repositories.
He praised the Malaria Consortium for its assessments of government efforts and reaffirmed the importance of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) in strengthening malaria management.
Dr. Kolawole Maxwell, Director of Programmes at the Malaria Consortium, shared insights from recent research and assessments in northern and southern Nigeria, focusing on malaria case management and the use of mosquito nets.
