Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has accused her former manager, Ezekiel ThankGod, popularly known as Eezeetee, of sponsoring false rumours about her newborn son.
Mercy and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on October 28, 2023. Shortly after, rumours surfaced claiming that the child was fathered by another gospel musician, Nathaniel Bassey.
In a video posted on social media on Tuesday, Mercy tearfully alleged that Ezekiel was behind the false reports.
“One of my major crimes was when I did a song with Pastor Nathaniel Bassey. Because this man hates Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, you went as far as sponsoring fake news about an innocent child, my son,” she said. “You said my son was not my son and you paid bloggers.”
She also accused Ezekiel of attempting to control her associations with other gospel ministers, including Pastor Jerry Eze, and described her relationship with him as toxic.
Mercy’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, had previously addressed some of these issues in a statement shared on social media on January 25. In the statement, Mercy clarified that she did not initiate legal action regarding her music catalogue but accused Ezekiel of playing the victim despite being a bully.
The singer revealed that the strain of the relationship forced her to move from Port Harcourt to Lagos, describing Ezekiel’s actions as an attempt to tarnish her reputation.
“You have bloggers; I have God,” she said, expressing her faith that she would overcome the challenges.
