Yul Edochie Sparks Reactions as He Declares Himself a Hardcore Traditionalist

By Oluwapelumi Oluwayemi

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has once again found himself at the center of controversy after publicly embracing traditional African spirituality.

His declaration has stirred reactions from fans and critics alike, with many questioning his sudden shift from Christianity to hardcore traditionalism.

Hours ago, Edochie took to Instagram to announce his new spiritual path, lamenting that many Africans have abandoned their powerful indigenous religions due to fear of societal judgment.

He described this as an “abomination” and vowed never to turn his back on the traditions of his forefathers, which he claimed are built on truth, transparency, and fairness.

However, his announcement was met with skepticism, especially considering his recent claims of being a minister of God.

Social media users flooded his comment section with criticism, questioning his consistency in matters of faith.

“You no be Pastor again?” one user, @chidiebere9200, asked.

Another user, @umegbunnenna, commented, “Judy don finally finish this one,” suggesting that Edochie’s second wife, Judy Austin, may have influenced his decision.

Others expressed confusion over his sudden transition. “I thought you claimed to be a pastor the other day and said God called you. Nawa!” wrote @blessingjemine.

Ironically, just days before his traditionalist declaration, Edochie had reaffirmed his role as a minister of God.

In response to critics questioning his faith, he stated that he had become even more powerful because he had reconnected with his African roots. According to him, God had revealed a long-hidden truth to him, which inspired his spiritual transformation.

This is not the first time Edochie has defended traditional African beliefs. Weeks ago, he argued that many pastors were originally meant to be native doctors but chose to follow Christianity due to colonial influence and Nollywood’s portrayal of traditional religion as evil. He described the role of a native doctor as a divine calling meant to serve humanity.

Similarly, during the Easter celebrations, he urged Nigerians to stop burning shrines and deities, emphasizing that not all traditional deities are evil. He argued that foreign influences have brainwashed Africans into abandoning their heritage and called on them to embrace their traditions.
