A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano, Musa Illlyasu Kwankwaso, has alleged that his cousin who is also the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is making subtle moves to decamp to join him in his party.
Illyasu, told journalists in Kano on Thursday, that Senator Kwankwaso’s latest political calculation was to pave way for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to secure a second term in office.
Illyasu also hinted that members of National Assembly from Kano who rode to victory with the NNPP banner are planning the join the APC train.
According to Iliyasu, ” Kwankwaso is lobbying President Bola Tinubu to allow him to defect to our great party, the APC, so as to achieve his interest.”
Illyasu who is former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development further alleged that Kwankwaso’s purpose of moving to the APC, “is to secure a second term for his political godson, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in 2027.
“We are quite aware of the serial efforts of Kwankwaso to have the ears of President Tinubu to allow him to decamp to APC to enable his political godson, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to have a smooth ride for a second term in office.”
Illyasu who is currently the Executive Director (Finance) Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, however, urged President Tinubu not to allow Kwankwaso into the APC.
He, however, welcomed the alleged decision of the NNPP members of the National Assembly from Kano to join APC, describing it as a good development, capable of deflating the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement.
“And this will be a good development for the APC as the party strategizes to recapture Kano in the 2027 general elections,” he added.
