The Kano State Police Command has arrested the wife of Ahmad Adam Abba, the Chadian national behind last week’s foiled terror attack during the National Tijjaniyya Maulud ceremony in Kano.
She was apprehended alongside a 42-year-old Chadian, Jibrin Mohammed, and a Nigerian accomplice who provided accommodation for the suspected terrorists.
Addressing journalists, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, confirmed that the mastermind, Abba, had fled Nigeria, but said security operatives successfully arrested three of his associates.
“We have apprehended his wife, another Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, and a Nigerian accomplice. Their arrest followed a thorough investigation and intelligence-led operations. They are currently in custody as investigations continue,” Dogo stated.
Recalling earlier security alerts, Dogo noted that on 24th January 2025, the command had urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity following intelligence reports about terrorist presence in the state.
Acting on these reports, he said security operatives recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and discreet investigations are ongoing.
He further disclosed that Abba, the prime suspect, was responsible for the killing of 17 people in Chad and was plotting to establish a terrorist base in Kano.
“In addition to the arrests, we have intensified intelligence-gathering operations and are working closely with other security agencies and community members to identify potential threats. Patrols and surveillance have also been heightened in vulnerable areas,” he added.
Dogo reassured residents of the police command’s commitment to maintaining security, urging them to cooperate with law enforcement and provide timely information that could help prevent future threats.
“The Kano State Government and residents have been highly supportive, and we remain dedicated to ensuring peace and order. Your safety is our priority,” he concluded.
