Ibadan jewellery thieves beg court for mercy

Two men identified as Kenneth Agwazin and Ayuba Pojti, on Friday begged court for mercy after pleading guilty to participating in the stealing of a set of gold jewellery valued at N600,000 in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Agwazin and Pojti were docked before a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing of various property.

They pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing them after the charges were read to them.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, had told the court that the defendants committed the crime on Dec. 23 at around 2 a.m., at Asi-Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ayeni added that the three men, with others now at large, were apprehended after stealing various items, property of one Tade Suara.

The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State 2000.

The third defendant in the matter, Tomiwa Akinsola, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was consequently admitted to a bail of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

The court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the suit until Feb. 6 for judgment and March 31 for commencement of trial of Akinsola.
