The Ogun State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of third-party motor insurance, following a directive from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The enforcement began on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, leading the operation in Abeokuta.
Ogunlowo and his team visited key areas like Olomore, Ibara, and OPIC Panseke to monitor compliance.
While a good number of motorists were compliant, some requested more time to update their insurance.
Motorists found without valid third-party insurance but possessing other necessary documents were given a grace period and educated on the importance of insurance.
Ogunlowo stressed that third-party insurance is vital for financial protection in case of accidents, ensuring victims receive compensation.
The Ogun State Police Command urged all vehicle owners to obtain valid insurance immediately to avoid penalties as the enforcement continued across the state.
