Three suspects who allegedly specialised in robbing bank customers across Bauchi, Borno and Kano States are now in police net.

The suspects were arrested during attempted robbery in Bauchi metropolis, CSP Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson the command disclosed on Friday in Bauchi.

He said the suspects were nabbed by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID).

“The three suspects and another at-large, utilised locally fabricated master keys to gain unauthorised access to their victims’ vehicles and properties.

“The suspects’ modus operandi involved monitoring bank customers, who withdrew substantial amounts of money, intending to rob them.

“They would follow their targets to their destinations, using the fabricated keys to unlock their vehicles,” Wakil said.

He explained that the arrest was made on January 28, 2025, after the suspects conspired to rob a 43-year-old businessman, who had withdrawn a considerable sum from FCMB Bank in Bauchi.

“The victim, however, realised he was being followed and contacted the police, leading to the apprehension of three suspects.

“During the investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement and provided information that would aid in the capture of the at-large ringleader.

“The police recovered three locally fabricated master keys, two Toyota Honda saloon vehicles, and other exhibits,” he said.
