Kanye West’s latest move on Instagram has raised eyebrows, as he has made Taylor Swift the only account he follows.
This unexpected gesture has sparked curiosity among fans, given the tumultuous history between the two celebrities.
Kanye West is known for his unpredictable behavior on social media. At times, he floods his feed with posts about his wife, Bianca Censori, often sharing risqué photos. Other times, he wipes his account clean, leaving fans wondering about his next move. His decision to follow Taylor Swift exclusively has added another layer of intrigue to his online presence.
Taylor Swift, who is currently dating American football player Travis Kelce, does not reciprocate Kanye’s follow.
However, this development comes on the heels of Kanye’s subtle reference to Taylor and Travis in his Vultures 2 album.
In the track Lifestyle (Demo), Kanye raps, “I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce.” The lyrics seem to allude to Taylor and her boyfriend, who plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The feud between Kanye and Taylor dates back to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. During the ceremony, Kanye stormed the stage, interrupting Taylor’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video. He snatched the microphone and proclaimed that Beyoncé’s video was “one of the best of all time.” The incident sparked a long-standing animosity between the two artists.
In 2016, tensions between Kanye and Taylor escalated with the release of his song Famous. Kanye claimed Taylor had given him permission to use a derogatory term to describe her in the lyrics. However, Taylor disputed this claim, leading to a public spat between the two. The feud intensified when Kanye’s then-wife, Kim Kardashian, released a recorded conversation between Kanye and Taylor, which seemed to support Kanye’s version of events.
In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Taylor opened up about the emotional turmoil she experienced during the scandal.
She described the public backlash as “a mass public shaming” that left her feeling isolated. Taylor also shared how she channeled her emotions into her music, citing the songs This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things and Look What You Made Me Do as examples of her creative response to the ordeal.
