Uncle remanded in Kirikiri accused of defiling of 9-year-old niece in Lagos

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has reiterated its commitment to securing justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, following the alleged defilement of a 9-year-old girl by her uncle, a carpenter residing in Ayobo.
A statement issued by DSVA’s spokesperson, Adejoke Oginni said the case came to light on 31st January 2025, after popular comedienne and child rights advocate, Princess, alerted DSVA to the incident.
Acting swiftly, the agency escalated the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Ayobo Police Station.
That same night, the survivor was rescued and placed in a safe shelter through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD), while arrangements were made for medical attention.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the case was transferred to the Gender Desk for further investigation.
On 7th February 2025, the matter was brought before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi at the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court, Oyingbo.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges, after which the court ordered his remand at Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case has been adjourned to 19th February 2025.
