In a high-stakes chase through Lagos, police have apprehended Segun Oladeyo, 38, a driver accused of making off with his employer’s Toyota 4Runner SUV.
The dramatic capture comes after Oladeyo vanished with the vehicle, leaving his employer at Sayeed Farm Limited, Lekki, desperately seeking answers.
The incident began when Oladeyo was reportedly sent on a routine errand by his employer but failed to return.
Hours turned into a tense 24-hour wait, during which all attempts to reach him proved futile—his phone was switched off, and there was no trace of the missing SUV, bearing registration number KRD 764 FX.
Alarmed by the situation, the employer swiftly alerted the Maroko Division of the Lagos State Police Command.
Under the command of CSP Ganiyu Raji, a team of officers launched a city-wide manhunt, scouring potential hideouts for the rogue driver. Their efforts paid off when they discovered Oladeyo in a secluded corner of Lagos, where he was promptly arrested.
During interrogation, Oladeyo reportedly confessed but spun an unexpected tale—he claimed he had no intention of stealing the SUV but was persuaded by an unidentified man to give him a ride.
According to Oladeyo, the man disappeared with the vehicle, leaving him in a bind.
Following thorough investigations by Police Inspector Niylola Olayinka and his team, Oladeyo was brought before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on charges of conspiracy and theft.
Police prosecutor Ruben Solomon informed the court that Oladeyo had intended to sell the vehicle before being tracked down.
Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, Magistrate Wahab granted Oladeyo bail but ordered his detention at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility until the bail conditions are met.
The case has been adjourned until 6 February 2025 for mention.
