Caudel Haughton

Haughton jailed

A London man who brutally stabbed a young victim to death in an unprovoked doorstep attack has been sentenced to an indefinite term in a secure hospital after shocking CCTV footage captured the killing in real-time.

Caudel Haughton, 21, of Conisborough Crescent, SE6, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 7 February, for the manslaughter of 20-year-old Filipe Oliveira.

The attack, which took place outside Oliveira’s home in Norwood Road, SE27, on 15 April 2023, was meticulously pieced together by investigators using extensive surveillance footage and witness testimonies.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who led the investigation, said: “This was a senseless and unprovoked attack that robbed Filipe of his future. Our thoughts remain with his family, who have endured almost two years of heartbreak waiting for justice. Thanks to crucial CCTV evidence and key witness accounts, Haughton has been removed from society and will no longer pose a threat to the public.”

According to the Met Police, CCTV tracking revealed Haughton’s chilling, premeditated movements on the day of the attack.

He left his home in Catford and embarked on a deliberate, hour-and-a-half journey involving buses, walking, and two train rides—each step bringing him closer to his unsuspecting victim.
