Meta sent shockwaves through its workforce on Monday, slashing 4,000 jobs in a ruthless, performance-based purge—despite some affected employees claiming they had received stellar feedback just months earlier.
New York Post reports that CEO Mark Zuckerberg had warned of a tougher stance on performance management, echoing Elon Musk’s no-nonsense approach.
However, many workers were blindsided, with some insisting they had been assured their jobs were safe.
“We were told only low performers would be let go, but my manager repeatedly praised my work,” a stunned former employee told Business Insider.
The abrupt layoffs, which wiped out 5% of Meta’s workforce, have sparked outrage and uncertainty within the tech giant.
Meanwhile, Meta has yet to respond to the growing backlash.
