A 29-year-old cook, Samira Abubakar, was on Wednesday docked in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates Court, for allegedly stealing her employer’s gold jewellery worth N4.5 million
The defendant, who resides at Degel 1 Road Kaduna, was arraigned on a charge of stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 8 at Ungwan Rimi Kaduna.
Leo said that the complainant, one Ahmed Usman, reported that the defendant, who was his cook, entered into his room and stole his family gold jewellery valued at N4.5 million.
He said that after stealing the jewellery, the defendant ran to an unknown destination, until she was arrested on Feb. 10.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, which stipulates three years’ jail term, if the defendant is found guilty.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and must submit two recent passport photographs.
He further ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He adjourned the case until March 31, for hearing.(NAN)
