Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine will commence immediately.

This follows a “lengthy and highly productive” phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump revealed that both leaders had agreed on the need to halt the ongoing conflict, citing “millions of deaths” in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“We want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine,” Trump stated, adding that he and Putin had committed to working closely together, including making mutual visits to each other’s nations.

As part of the agreement, Trump said their respective teams would begin negotiations without delay, with the first step being a call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to inform him of the discussions.

He further disclosed that he had instructed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to lead the American delegation in the negotiations.

The announcement marks a significant shift in diplomatic efforts to resolve the war, with Trump positioning himself as a key mediator in the conflict.
