The Oluyinka Odumakin Foundation (OOF) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, describing his death as a profound loss to Nigeria.

Adebanjo, a nationalist, pro-democracy advocate, and leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, died on Friday at the age of 96.

In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, the Foundation lamented the exit of the elder statesman, noting that he was the last man standing in the inner caucus of the Awoist Group and a relentless advocate for justice, equity, and true federalism.

“It is with shock and sorrow that we received the news of Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s passing. He left behind an enduring legacy of patriotism, courage, and unparalleled commitment to democratic principles,” the statement read.

OOF highlighted Adebanjo’s role as a former Organising Secretary of the Action Group and a political leader whose influence shaped Nigeria’s democratic struggles.

“His absence will be deeply felt, not just within the Yoruba nation, but across Nigeria and beyond. His profound wisdom, principled positions, and fearless stance on national issues have played a significant role in shaping the struggle for a united and prosperous nation,” the Foundation added.

OOF extended its condolences to Adebanjo’s family, Afenifere, and all those who admired his lifelong dedication to nation-building.
