Kibet wins Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

Kenyan athlete Edwin Kibet won the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in the men’s category on Saturday for the $50,000 prize.

He secured victory in the men’s category on Saturday, completing the 42km race in an impressive time of 2:14:06 to clinch the $50,000 prize.

Kibet, who finished third in the previous edition, outpaced his rivals to claim the top spot this year. Last year’s winner, Bernard Sang, had set a time of 2:16:49, with another Kenyan, Cheprot, finishing as runner-up.

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa emerged victorious, further cementing the East African dominance of the marathon.

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon continues to be a prime platform for world-class long-distance runners, with athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia maintaining their stronghold over the competition.
