Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 47 suspected internet fraudsters on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Ekpoma, Edo State.
The arrests, carried out at multiple locations, followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to fraudulent online activities.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale.
He said the operation uncovered a stash of illicit wealth, with 14 exotic cars, high-end laptops, and dozens of mobile phones seized from the suspects.
According to him, the individuals have provided useful statements to investigators and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
This latest operation adds to a growing list of high-profile internet fraud arrests by the EFCC, particularly in Edo and Delta States, where cybercrime has become rampant.
Authorities have vowed that this is just the beginning, as more raids and arrests are expected in the coming weeks.
