Ramadan Galleria, an annual marketplace, has emerged as a vital platform for fostering intercultural relations between Nigeria and Syria, celebrating the rich heritage of both nations.
Founded by social entrepreneur and philanthropist Halima Mukhtar, the initiative provides a supportive environment for local businesses, individuals, and communities to connect and thrive.
“Our vision is to create a space where Nigerian and Syrian cultures can be showcased and harmonised, fostering deeper relationships between both communities,” Mukhtar said.
Her inspiration for launching Ramadan Galleria stemmed from a desire to celebrate the diverse traditions of Nigeria and Syria while promoting economic opportunities.
“Both nations boast vibrant cultural identities with immense potential for societal enrichment. By providing a platform for local businesses to display their offerings, we aim to drive economic growth and strengthen cultural exchange,” she added.
The inaugural edition was a resounding success, featuring an array of vendors selling traditional clothing, jewellery, food, and handicrafts. A portion of the proceeds was donated to the Syrian mosque, reinforcing the event’s commitment to community support.
Beyond commerce, Ramadan Galleria serves as a bridge for cultural understanding, enabling individuals and communities to connect, share experiences, and break down cultural barriers.
“This marketplace is more than a commercial hub; it’s a celebration of shared humanity. By embracing our traditions and values, we can build meaningful connections and a more harmonious world,” Mukhtar emphasised.
