The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to environmental safety following the apprehension of an individual caught illegally dumping refuse at Micon Bus Stop, along Akowonjo Road, Egbeda.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the incident occurred at approximately 7:09 a.m. when a woman identified as Rebecca was observed unlawfully disposing of waste.
He said investigations revealed that she was acting under the instruction of her sister, Mrs. Kate.
According to him, further inquiries confirmed that the household lacked a designated waste bin and was not registered with an authorised Private Sector Participant (PSP) for waste collection services.
In response, Wahab emphasised the state’s zero-tolerance policy on environmental infractions, warning residents against indiscriminate waste disposal.
“The Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring environmental safety and sustainability. We urge all residents to take responsibility for their surroundings by complying with waste management regulations,” Wahab stated.
Authorities have urged Lagosians to embrace proper waste disposal methods by registering with PSP operators to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
The state government continues to intensify efforts to enforce environmental laws, with increased surveillance and penalties for violators.
