Four Fulani herders identified as Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa and Ibrahim Haruna have died in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State after reportedly cooking and eating a fish they picked up at the bank of Kashimbila River while grazing.
The chairman of Takum local government area council in Taraba State, Hon. John Ali confirmed the incident to Leadership newspaper.
According to the local government chairman two others are currently hospitalised in the incident that happened on February 22, 2025, near a community close to Kashimbila Multi-Purpose Dam.
Ali said the Fulani herders did not know that the fish they picked up by the bank of the river was poisonous.
According to him, the Fulani herders picked up the specie of the fish known as as Frog Fish, which is very poisonous, cooked and ate it.
According to Leadership newspaper, Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo died on the spot after consuming the fish.
However, the two other herders who participated in eating in the meal are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Takum.
