Ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has forcefully resumed office, asserting that he remains the Speaker despite recent developments.
On Thursday, Obasa entered the Assembly complex under heavy security escort, including armed policemen and Civil Defence officers, and took control of the Speaker’s office.
His return coincided with the reported withdrawal of security aides assigned to the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, following an order from the Inspector General of Police.
Addressing journalists after reclaiming his office, Obasa insisted he had resumed his position.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he stated.
When asked if he had been reinstated, he responded, “I’ve never been removed.”
Obasa was impeached by the lawmakers on 13 January , 2025 over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.
