The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down several establishments, including a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the Assemblies of God Church, and a mosque.
Five hotels, two gas plants, and a pure water factory, were also shut over environmental violations, particularly noise pollution and improper facility siting.
In a statement on its X handle, LASEPA confirmed that the enforcement exercise targeted areas such as Surulere, Lagos Mainland, Agege, and Kosofe, where multiple businesses and religious centres were found flouting environmental regulations.
The affected hotels include Home Guest House, Feel at Home, Pholar Suites, Oak Spring Hotel, and 18plus Hotel.
The religious centres sealed include the Assemblies of God Church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and Anwarul Islam Movement.
Also affected were Chibuzor Gas and Dolax Gas plants, as well as Eco Fresh Pure Water factory.
LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws to safeguard public health and safety.
He stated that environmental infractions such as noise pollution and the illegal siting of gas refilling plants in residential areas posed significant risks to lives and disrupt public peace.
He emphasised that the agency’s enforcement actions were aimed at restoring order and ensuring compliance with Lagos State’s environmental regulations.
Ajayi warned that enforcement operations would continue across the state to deter further violations, urging businesses and individuals to comply with environmental laws or face strict penalties.
He also encouraged residents to report any environmental infractions in their communities to help maintain a cleaner and safer Lagos.
