Emmanuel Udom, the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Tuesday after he honoured the invitation of the anti-graft agency over alleged N700 billion fraud.

EFCC had invited Udom Emmanuel to its Abuja headquarters over a petition by a group identified as Network Against Corruption and Trafficking before he was detained, according to Channels Television.

The group had accused Udom of involvement in money laundering and diversion of funds to the tune of N70 billion when he was Akwa Ibom State governor.

The group claimed in the petition that Emmanuel received N3 trillion from the Federation Account in eight years but left a debt of N500bn behind at the completion of his tenure.

The group also claimed that Udom Emmanuel left uncompleted projects worth N300bn behind for his successor.

Also, the petitioners claimed Emmanuel was unable to account for N700bn.

EFCC operatives are reportedly grilling Emmanuel Udom Emmanuel who was governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2015 to 2023 under of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the allegations
