The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the e-call-up system for trucks following discussions with leaders of key transport unions.
The decision, reached during a meeting at the ministry’s conference room on Tuesday, granted the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) additional time to engage with their members on compliance measures.
Union representatives pledged to ensure their members adhered to parking regulations during the ongoing consultations, with the ministry reserving the right to resume enforcement if violations occur.
All parties acknowledged the e-call-up system as a crucial tool for regulating truck movement along the Lekki-Epe corridor and mitigating congestion.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olawale Musa, and union leaders, reaffirming a collective commitment to finding a sustainable solution for traffic management in the area.
