According to him, bottlenecks at the Ojota Interchange and Ketu Bus Terminus have posed challenges for road users, especially with heavy-duty vehicles offloading goods at Mile 12 Market.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, commissioned the newly rehabilitated Demurin-Agidi Road and Church Street in the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), describing the project as a major step in enhancing road connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and tackling persistent flooding in the area.

Speaking at the commissioning, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that improves the lives of Lagosians.

He noted that the road project aligned with the state’s broader vision for intermodal transportation, which integrates road, rail, and water transport to boost economic activities and improve citizens’ well-being.

“This ceremony marks another milestone in our administration’s drive to deliver life-changing public infrastructure. Over the past few weeks, we have commissioned several projects, and today, we celebrate another achievement that will enhance connectivity and ease transportation for our people,” the governor said.

The newly completed road serves as a crucial bypass for commuters heading to the Mile 12 International Commodities Market and the Owode Onirin Auto Parts Market on Ikorodu Road.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted its significance in facilitating the movement of goods and people, particularly for residents and businesses in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.

He further explained that the Lagos State Government has adopted a comprehensive transportation master plan that prioritizes seamless connectivity, particularly in areas experiencing high traffic congestion.

According to him, bottlenecks at the Ojota Interchange and Ketu Bus Terminus have posed challenges for road users, especially with heavy-duty vehicles offloading goods at Mile 12 Market.

“To address these issues, we have invested in critical roads that will eliminate traffic bottlenecks, stimulate new settlements, and provide much-needed relief to commuters. This aligns with our THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the rehabilitation of Demurin Road, Agidi Road, and Church Street has already begun revitalizing socio-economic activities for thousands of residents and business owners.

Despite challenges such as rising project costs, he assured Lagosians that his administration remains resolute in its vision for a Greater Lagos.

“We will continue delivering sustainable, life-changing projects that positively impact our people. These roads will drive development, bring economic prosperity, and significantly enhance business growth and Lagos’ GDP,” he said.

The governor also acknowledged the contributions of Messrs Retro Construction Company Limited and Messrs Regent Construction Limited in executing the project.

However, he warned against vandalism, indiscriminate refuse disposal, and axle overload, which could undermine the integrity of the newly built roads.

“Infrastructure sustainability goes beyond just delivering quality projects. It requires community involvement to protect these assets. I officially hand over these roads to the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and residents, urging them to take ownership and ensure their proper use,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu urged residents to safeguard the road against misuse and remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities.

“Let us foster a sense of communal pride in maintaining this infrastructure as a symbol of progress and development for our community and future generations,” he added.

In his address at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, said that the project is remarkable achievement and a testament to the visionary leadership of Mr. Governor and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, whose steadfast dedication to infrastructural development continues to reshape our great state.

He noted that the “completion of these roads align with the THEMES+ Agenda, particularly in transportation and traffic management, ensuring that inner city roads are motorable, resilient and accessible to all.

“The Demurin Road Network is a strategic link between Ikorodu-Mile 12 axis and the third axis through Alapere, providing seamless connectivity in both directions, thus a combined length of 2.3 kilometers.’’
