President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace compassion, selflessness, and unity as the 2025 Lenten season begins, coinciding with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement marking the commencement of Lent, Tinubu extended his best wishes to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, emphasising that the 40-day period is a time for fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

He highlighted the significance of Lent in preparing believers for Easter while encouraging them to embody the teachings of Jesus Christ through acts of kindness and generosity.

“This season is a solemn reminder of life’s transient nature,” Tinubu stated, referencing Genesis 3:19: “For dust you are, and to dust you will return.”

He urged Nigerians to use the period to extend love to the needy, comfort the grieving, and support the marginalised, stressing that faith is best demonstrated through service to humanity.

The president noted the rare convergence of Lent and Ramadan this year, describing it as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s unity in diversity.

“Both seasons emphasise devotion, sacrifice, and acts of kindness. This convergence reinforces our shared values as a people,” he said.

Beyond spiritual reflection, Tinubu pointed to positive strides in Nigeria’s economy and security, noting that the country ended 2024 on a strong note.

“Food prices are declining, the exchange rate is stabilising, fuel prices are dropping, and our security forces are making commendable strides,” he said, expressing optimism for continued national progress.

As the season of penance and renewal begins, Tinubu prayed for divine blessings upon the country.

“May God renew our hearts, strengthen our faith, and guide us on the path of righteousness,” he concluded.
