Tinubu fires up Health Sector with six new CMD appointments

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for federal hospitals across the country, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery.

This is contained in a statement issued by Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga on Friday.

The appointments, which span medical institutions in Ondo, Gombe, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Borno, and Kaduna States, take effect from their respective dates of assumption of office and will run for four years.

In Akure, Ondo State, Prof. Olusegun Sylvester Ojo has been appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital.

A seasoned medical professional, Prof. Ojo previously served as the pioneer CMD of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, bringing extensive experience in hospital administration to his new role.

Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi has secured a second term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, following an impressive first tenure. His reappointment underscores the federal government’s confidence in his leadership, with his new term commencing on September 5, 2024.

In Bauchi State, Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum, who had been serving in an acting capacity, has been confirmed as the substantive CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare. His appointment, effective December 6, 2024, solidifies his leadership at the institution.

The newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafiya, Nasarawa State, will be under the leadership of Dr. Ikrama Hassan. A consultant physician, Dr. Hassan previously headed the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its elevation to a teaching hospital.

In Maiduguri, Borno State, Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat, a renowned consultant orthopaedic and spine surgeon, has been appointed as the CMD of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu, a consultant family physician, will assume the role of CMD at the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

According to the statement, President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.

Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that all Nigerians have access to quality medical services.
