The Abia Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal crash along the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway that claimed four lives and left 14 others injured.
According to a statement by the Sector Commander, Mrs Ngozi Ezeoma, the accident occurred at the Ohiya Mechanic area on Friday at 2:01 p.m.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a burst tyre and excessive speed caused the vehicle to somersault multiple times.
The crash involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus operated by the Ebonyi Transport Corporation. A total of 18 passengers—11 men and 7 women—were aboard.
One female passenger died at the scene, while 17 others were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia for treatment.
Sadly, two male passengers and another female later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to four.
Ezeoma extended her condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathised with the injured.
She reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
