The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident in Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo, where a farmer lost his life after a palm tree fell on him.
The unfortunate event occurred on March 9, 2025, at approximately 3:30 PM.
The incident was reported to the police at about 9:30 PM by Gbamila Sunday, a resident of Bogije, Atikori, Ijebu Igbo.
According to his report, the victim, 40-year-old Abdullahi Rasaki, had gone to the Egbe Semi Jeje area of Oke Sopen alongside Waheed Abbass to cut palm trees when tragedy struck.
While felling a tree, it unexpectedly collapsed on Rasaki, trapping him beneath its weight.
His cries for help alerted nearby residents, who rushed to his aid, removed the fallen tree, and transported him to General Hospital, Sagamu.
Sadly, Rasaki was pronounced dead upon arrival, with medical personnel suspecting the impact of the tree caused fatal injuries. His remains have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) of the Ijebu Igbo Police Division has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and advised farmers and loggers to exercise extreme caution while engaging in tree-felling activities to prevent similar tragedies.
