Fear and bloodshed gripped Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State as armed men, suspected to be herdsmen, unleashed terror on four farming communities, massacring over 20 farmers in a brutal midnight assault.
The coordinated attacks, which occurred over the weekend, turned the once peaceful settlements of Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camp into killing fields, leaving a trail of death and destruction.
Eyewitnesses described the horror that unfolded in the dead of night as the assailants stormed the villages from the Edo State boundary, firing indiscriminately and slaughtering their victims in cold blood.
Residents fled for their lives, but many were caught in the hail of bullets, while others remain missing.
Regent of Ademekun Camp, Adelowo Adekemisola, confirmed that at least 14 bodies had been recovered in his community alone, with more victims feared dead or unaccounted for.
“They came under the cover of darkness and started shooting at anyone in sight. It was a massacre,” he lamented.
Channels TV quoted the Ondo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, acknowledging the chilling attack, confirming that security operatives have been deployed to track down the killers and restore order.
As panic spreads through the affected communities, residents are calling for urgent government intervention before more blood is spilled in the escalating wave of violence sweeping through the region.
