In a daring and well-executed ambush, troops of Sub-Sector 4, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, launched a surprise attack on insurgents near Ngwagi Hill, Gwagwada Community, along the notorious Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The soldiers eliminated three armed extremists in a swift and deadly encounter, disrupting their movement and recovering a significant cache of weapons.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops embarked on a long-range fighting patrol and reached the suspected insurgent crossing point around 5:30 PM on Tuesday, March 11.
As the insurgents approached, the troops unleashed a storm of gunfire, cutting them down before they could react.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgent expert, the operation yielded two AK-47 rifles, eight fully loaded magazines, 374 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 special ammunition, and 88 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 NATO ammunition.
Other recovered items included an Infinix mobile phone, medical supplies, and dry rations, all of which suggested the criminals were preparing for an extended campaign.
Following the ambush, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Major General Mayirenso Lander David Saraso, praised the troops for their resilience and tactical precision. He urged them to maintain the pressure until all insurgents in the region are wiped out.
