As part of its commitment to gender empowerment, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc hosted a thought-provoking edition of its Business Series to mark the 2025 International Women’s Month.
The event, held at the Tony Elumelu Amphitheatre in UBA House, Lagos, brought together accomplished female leaders from diverse industries to share their experiences on overcoming systemic challenges, driving meaningful change, and building lasting legacies.
The high-impact session featured notable speakers, including Tanzanian entrepreneur and Founder of Shule Direct, Faraja Kotta Nyalandu; Former Attorney General and Board Chairman of Africa Prudential Plc, Chief (Mrs) Eniola Fadayomi; award-winning actress and entrepreneur, Nancy Isime; and Managing Director of BOI Investment and Trust Company Limited, Mrs Flora Fabyan.
Throughout the discussion, the speakers highlighted the pressing need for gender parity, financial independence, and strategic career growth, calling for institutional support to break existing barriers.
Faraja Kotta Nyalandu emphasised the transformative power of education and opportunity in empowering women.
She stated, “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. When you empower a woman, you impact families, businesses, and entire communities. If given the platform, women will not only rise but also redefine leadership.”
Chief Eniola Fadayomi recounted her challenges as a woman navigating the legal and public sectors in Nigeria.
“Women in leadership must constantly prove themselves. If you are collaborative, you’re seen as weak; if assertive, you’re called aggressive. Women must leverage their strengths to break through these biases,” she said.
Nancy Isime underscored the importance of financial independence, urging women to take control of their financial futures.
“Your financial security determines the choices you make in life. Budget wisely, invest strategically, and never stop learning,” she advised.
Managing home and career remains a delicate balance, according to Flora Fabyan, who noted that women are naturally equipped to multitask and make strategic decisions that benefit both spheres.
Speaking at the event, UBA’s Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication, Alero Ladipo, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to fostering an environment where women can thrive.
“At UBA, we recognise that when women succeed, businesses, communities, and economies flourish. This event is a testament to our unwavering support for gender equality and the advancement of women in all sectors,” she said.
With operations in 20 African countries and beyond, UBA continues to lead financial inclusion and technological innovation while championing diversity in leadership.
By spotlighting the challenges and triumphs of female leaders, the UBA Business Series reinforces the urgent need for systemic transformation—ensuring that women not only break barriers but also leave lasting legacies.
