Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting gender equality and inclusion as it joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
With the theme “Accelerate Action,” this year’s IWD aligns with Emzor’s ongoing efforts to empower women through healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director, Mrs. Uzoma Ezeoke, emphasised the critical role women play in shaping society and driving economic growth. She called for collective action to eliminate barriers hindering women’s advancement.
“At Emzor, we believe that diversity, equality, and inclusion are fundamental to societal progress. Ensuring women’s access to quality healthcare, education, and economic empowerment is essential in building a more inclusive and equitable world,” she said.
Mrs. Ezeoke urged stakeholders across sectors to intensify efforts towards achieving gender parity, stressing that equal opportunities for women and girls must be prioritised.
“As we mark IWD 2025, we must accelerate action towards gender equality. It is imperative that we create a society where every woman has the opportunity to thrive—whether in education, healthcare, or business,” she added.
Reaffirming Emzor’s commitment to women’s health, Mrs. Ezeoke highlighted the company’s investment in high-quality and affordable healthcare solutions tailored to women’s needs.
“From over-the-counter maternal care products to specialty medications, our mission is to support women’s well-being at every stage of life,” she noted.
As part of its contributions to public health, Emzor has played a pioneering role in combating malaria, a disease that disproportionately affects pregnant women and children.
The company has invested in the local production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for four key antimalarial drugs—becoming the first manufacturer of APIs in sub-Saharan Africa. This initiative aims to reduce malaria incidence and lower maternal and infant mortality rates.
Beyond healthcare, Emzor has been a steadfast supporter of women’s sports development. The company has sponsored Nigeria’s Super Falcons since 2016, reinforcing its commitment to empowering female athletes.
Additionally, Emzor has backed initiatives led by individual players, such as the Asisat Oshoala Football Competition for Girls, a project spearheaded by the six-time CAF African Women’s Player of the Year.
In 2024, the company also hosted Oshoala’s grand homecoming celebration in recognition of her achievements.
Dr. Funke Asiru, Executive Director of Transformation and Strategy, underscored the company’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, where women play key roles in various departments.
“At Emzor, we take pride in the contributions of our female colleagues, whose leadership and innovation drive our success. We remain committed to supporting women’s empowerment through education, vocational training, and entrepreneurship development,” she stated.
Through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Emzor has been actively involved in programmes that support girls’ education and economic inclusion, reinforcing its belief that women are catalysts for economic growth and social progress.
International Women’s Day, first celebrated in 1911, continues to serve as a global platform for advocating gender equality, challenging stereotypes, and addressing discrimination against women. Despite significant progress, many challenges remain, making the call to “Accelerate Action” more urgent than ever.
