In a high-stakes international sting, Colombian authorities, working alongside the FBI, have captured a notorious Nigerian drug kingpin, Joseph Chinedu Okparaejesi, alias Alen, at El Dorado International Airport, Bogotá.
Okparaejesi, who had operated from Colombia for over 12 years under the guise of a beauty industry entrepreneur, was arrested upon arrival from São Paulo, Brazil.
His takedown follows a relentless investigation spearheaded by the Dijín (Colombian police intelligence unit) and the Attorney General’s Office.
Behind his façade, authorities say Okparaejesi masterminded a vast cocaine trafficking network, orchestrating shipments to Spain through human couriers and cleverly modified double-bottom suitcases.
He allegedly bankrolled drug procurement, ensuring a seamless operation that spanned multiple countries.
His downfall was triggered by the confession of a drug mule caught en route to Spain, who exposed the inner workings of his syndicate.
The revelations led to the arrest of 15 other suspects tied to his operations, dealing a massive blow to the trafficking ring.
Further investigations uncovered Okparaejesi’s deep-rooted presence in Colombia.
He married a local woman in 2012 at the Nuestra Señora de Fátima parish in Bogotá and ran a hair extension business, “Nigeria African,” near Ciudad de Cali Avenue—an enterprise suspected of serving as a front for his illicit empire.
Despite his efforts to maintain a low profile, rarely leaving Colombia except for brief visits to Africa every two years, his luck finally ran out.
Colombian authorities have confirmed his detention at a high-security facility, with multiple charges of drug trafficking, production, and distribution now hanging over him.
