In a decisive crackdown on crime, the Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 53 notorious thugs in a series of raids across the metropolis.

The operation, which took place between March 13 and 14, led to the seizure of illicit drugs, weapons, and other incriminating items, reinforcing the government’s commitment to restoring peace and order.

Chairman of the Task Force, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, confirmed that the targeted clearance operation focused on criminal hideouts and black spots in areas such as Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’in, and Dan Agundi.

He stated that intelligence reports guided the operation, leading to the successful apprehension of suspected thugs and drug dealers.

During the raid, operatives discovered a substantial quantity of illicit drugs, including Cannabis Sativa, Codeine syrup, rubber solution, and suspected Exol tablets.

Officers also recovered a delivery vehicle and five cattle suspected to belong to a known drug dealer. Additionally, dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, clubs, scissors, and charms, were found in the possession of the suspects.

Dr. Kofar Mata disclosed that a particularly notorious drug joint in Zanzado was raided, where officers uncovered a larger stash of narcotics.

He described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against thuggery and substance abuse, emphasizing that the arrests marked a turning point in efforts to reclaim Kano from criminal elements.

“The success recorded in the two-day operations shows a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat thuggery and substance abuse in Kano State,” Kofar Mata stated.

“The composition of the committee, which brings together security agencies and government functionaries, is dedicated to sanitizing the streets of Kano and restoring peace to our communities.”

He further assured that all the suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.

He reiterated that the Kano State Joint Task Force remains committed to creating a safer, drug-free, and peaceful environment for the benefit of all residents.
