The administration of President Donald Trump has since Sunday commenced mass layoffs at Voice of America and other US-funded media outlets.
A day after all employees were put on leave, those on contract were informed by email that their appointments would terminate at the end of March.
But most of the full time staff remain on administrative leave and told not to work.
Other state funded media are also affected in the mass layoffs.
The Trump administration also froze Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, formed in the Cold War to reach the former Soviet bloc, and Radio Free Asia, established to provide reporting to China, North Korea and other Asian countries.
Yet affected are US-funded media outlets like Radio Farda, a Persian-language broadcaster blocked by Iran’s government, and Alhurra, an Arabic-language network established after the Iraq invasion in the face of highly critical coverage by Qatar-based Al-Jazeera.
